Scovie 2010

Greetings,  Happy New Year! We are please to announce that after winning several awards in Austin and Houston hot sauce festivals, we have also won prestigious Scovie awards. The Scovie Awards are the equivalent of the Oscar awards for makers of all things hot and spicy. We submitted our Salsa products for two categories and both of the products won awards:

Curry-Chipotle Salsa – 1st place in Chipotle category

Mirchi-Masala Salsa – 3rd place in Tomatillo category

Austin Hot Sauce Festival!

HOT Sauce Festival 2009

Austin Hot Sauce Festival 2009

Anyone who attended the Austin Chronicle’s Annual Hot Sauce Festival this year probably waited in at least one of the extremely long lines to try some hot sauces.  Fortunately or unfortunately, lines at our booth were one of the longest – we continued to supply eager tasters with samples of our Salsas and Sauces from 11:00am until 6:00pm.

It was our 1st year particpating in the commercial bottlers category,  I’m so excited to share the results with you! Overall, we won 5 awards.

Our big winners were:

  • Curry Chiptole Salsa in Red Sauce – 1st Place
  • Mirchi Masala Salsa in Green Sauce – 1st Place
  • Mango Chutney in Speciality Sauce – 3rd Place

Alhough these 3 sauces won the awards, our other sauces sold extremely well.  In fact, we sold out of Mirchi Masala Salsa Verde and Curry Tabasco in first few hours of opening.  For those of you who wanted to sample try them but didn’t get chance, we are making a fresh batch this week for the farmer’s market at the Triangle on Wed and Downtown on Sat so please stop by our booth.

When all is said and done, it doesn’t matter how many awards we win, what matters most is what our customers (you) like! Thanks to all of y’all for visiting our booth and voting for our People’s Choice Awards.  Without you, none of this would have been possible.

Dhulee Achar (Dry Nepalese spice)

4 08 2009

I have received several e-mails from you on how to use Dhulee Achar which Greenling delivered to us. One can use this spice in lots of different ways:

  1. Use on fresh vegetables to enhance flavors. It tastes great on cucumber, tomato and cauliflower.
  2. Use it as a rub on grilled meat. I am vegetarian so please let me know how it tastes.
  3. Use it as seasoning on popcorn; butter and spices is good combination.
  4. Use as a salad dressing. Use an entire package and add:
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 2tsp red wine vinegar

Blend it and pour it over the salad. It’s  great to make a spicy potato salad or stir fried potatoes:

  • 2tsp olive oil
  • dash of pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1tsp of salt
  • 1lb red potatoes sliced about (6-8)
  • 1tsp of spice

  • Heat the oil and brown the pepper flakes.
  • Add the salt and potatoes and cook in low heat till done.
  • Now add the spice and stir fry for about a minute and serve.
